First-Ever Free Dog License Promotion

For the first time, Washoe County Regional Animal Services is offering free 1-year dog licenses to help get more current identification tags on dogs before the Fourth of July, our busiest time of year for lost pets.

Help your dog get home faster: A current license tag helps Animal Services identify your dog and contact you if your pet becomes lost. Free licenses must be completed in person at Animal Services during regular licensing hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Please bring proof of your dog’s current rabies vaccination. Your dog does not need to be present.

Who Qualifies

Dogs qualify if they have never been licensed, have an expired license, or are eligible for renewal within 30 days.

The Fourth of July is WCRAS’ busiest time of year for lost pets. Fireworks, visitors, open gates, and holiday activity can cause pets to become frightened and separated from their families. The goal of this first-time promotion is to get more current ID tags on dogs before the holiday so Animal Services can quickly identify lost dogs and contact their owners.
